Please RSVP so we know for how many to provide snacks and drinks. Attendees in addition to the speakers and Graham, Vernon Relling, David Tracey, Pamela Holzinger, Monika Golec, Remi Alao, and several from Meetup. Probably 10 to 15 people, we can take up to 22 in the Cheminee Room. So you can invite your friends.

We will have four (or more) speakers on April 14.

1. Ann Kistler and Gary Long talking about a recent holiday to Martinique and Guadeloupe.

2. Peter Clamann talking about a recent trip to Finland and Norway

3. Pierre-Yves Schwab will tell us about his cycle trip through 9 countries from Switzerlnd to the North Cape in Norway, in particular the most memorable events in Russia.

4. Michael Tschanz leads walking groups with historical and cultural themes, as described on www.chtour.ch

Others are welcome to give short presentations of their recent travel experiences.

From Michael Tschanz, leader of walking groups with historical and cultural themes described on www.chtour.ch

I would be glad to have you with us at one of the next excursions. It would allow you to see what we offer and to evaluate if these excursions are indeed of interest to the International Club.

We are usually a small but quite diverse group of people, some Swiss, some Russian speakers (I'm also the head of an association promoting the culture of the countries that were part of the Soviet Union, so we had successful excursions about Dostoevsky in Geneva, about Tolstoy in Lucerne, about general Suvorov...).

As for the excursion on 1 June, I believe participants will profit if they have a certain knowledge of German and French and of Swiss culture. It is our attempt to interest German speakers to a great writer who wrote in French. With the excursion, we also try to bridge the language and mentality barrier within Switzerland and speak about moments in Swiss history that are perceived very differently in Bern and in Vaud (1798 is, for the Bernese, the invasion of the French and the worst moment in history, while in Vaud, it's called "la Révolution vaudoise", they planted trees to celebrate it in 1998...).

Best regards

Michael Tschanz

Hans-Peter Clamann will give a 10-minute talk on the journey he and his wife Eva made through Finland and Norway. He saw unusual sights which he documented with stories and pictures.

Also Pierre-Yves will talk: In 2011, Pierre-Yves crossed nine countries riding his bike from Geneva to the North Cape in Norway. He will tell us about three of the most memorable days of his trip while traveling in the middle of nowhere in the Russia taïga. His aim is to show you the kind of experience and emotions you can live during such adventure, and even maybe, inspire you to undertake your own special trip.

A theme for the April 16 meeting will be travel. Volunteers to peak so far are Ann and Gary on their recent trip to Guadeloupe and Martinique, and Peter Clamann on his and Eva's trip to Lappland.

A new group in Basel: International Travel Meetup
https://www.meetup.com/International-Travel-Meetup-Basel-English-Speaking/
We like to explore countries and cultures through travel. We want to travel more and better and therefore we share our experiences, our advice and our dreams and we motivate each other to travel. In our meetings we discuss travel topics and destinations all over the world that are of interest of our members. We believe that in our life we should collect moments and experiences instead of objects. Life is a travel and we should travel as long as we have energy, strength and a good pair of legs. There is only one life and we should go as far as we can.
